From the editors of the popular Making Mathematics with Needlework, this book presents projects that highlight the relationship between types of needlework and mathematics. Chapters start with accessible overviews presenting the interplay between mathematical concepts and craft expressions. Following sections explain the mathematics in more detail, and provide suggestions for classroom activities. Each chapter ends with specific crafting instructions. Types of needlework included are knitting, crochet, needlepoint, cross-stitch, quilting, temari balls, beading, tatting, and string art. Instructions are written as ordinary patterns, so the formatting and language will be familiar to crafters.

Turkos nätväska!
Turkos nätväska!

I had a turquoise/blue yarn hank over and I really didn't knew what to do with it. With white yarn I can do anything, but this one, hm. But then I remembered that my mother often had meshbags when I was younger and I wanted to try to make one but I wanted a more solid bottom than the meshbags I remembered so I made this version instead. :o) This is my own design except for some mesh instructions from Debbie Stollers' The Happy Hooker. The bag is about 24 x 22 cm (without handle).

Time had come for a new bag situation, and evidently to me that means making one. I am not sure why bags are sort of my favorite kind of project. It is weird, because it's pretty hard to make one sturdy enough for everyday use. But if they weren't such a subjective item, I'd probably be making them all the time for everybody anyway. This one made a good change, for a bag, as today carrying the exact same items felt ten pounds lighter than yesterday. It's based on the Crochet Me Traveling Bag instructions with a dash of Alita Designs Flower Motif. Seriously you guys, a hand to free internet patterns. I've been dying to try the cross-stitch on crochet trick ever since I saw a photo of some x-es in a craft book. It's totally genius, using the structure of the fabric as a canvas. I actually embroidered this after turning the bag inside-out because I like the softness of the reverse side of stitches in the round. BOOM. (If you don't crochet and you're curious, you can see how...
